NEW DELHI — 2006 · Serial Murder
The "Butcher of Delhi" Murders
A serial killer living in West Delhi, found to have murdered migrant workers he had first befriended, terrorised the city in 2006-2007 by leaving the dismembered bodies of three victims outside the gates of Tihar Jail, together with notes taunting the police. He had been arrested over his first killing in 1998 but freed for lack of evidence in 2002. Caught in May 2007, he was convicted of three separate murders in 2013 and sentenced to death; the Delhi High Court later commuted the sentence to life imprisonment. Dubbed the 'Butcher of Delhi', the case became the subject of a 2022 Netflix documentary. In 2024 he was re-arrested after failing to return from parole.
