BALTIMORE — 2006 · Suspicious Death
The Mysterious Death of Rey Rivera
Rey Rivera, a 32-year-old former water polo player and coach working as a writer and videographer for an investment publishing firm in Baltimore, left home in a hurry after a phone call on the evening of 16 May 2006 and never returned. His family found his car in a lot near the historic Belvedere Hotel; from the top of the adjacent parking garage, a hole was spotted in the hotel's lower roof. Rivera's body was found on 24 May in an unused conference room in the hotel. Police considered the death a probable suicide, but the medical examiner recorded the manner of death as 'undetermined'. A strange note full of Hollywood names found at his home was judged by the FBI not to be a suicide note. The case gained worldwide attention through Netflix's 'Unsolved Mysteries' in 2020.
