Denizli Grocer Murder

On 15 August 2006 a grocer was found killed in his own shop in Denizli. The murder went unsolved for many years until it was taken up again by a unit for unsolved cases set up within the Denizli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on 24 April 2026. Biological evidence in the file was reanalysed with current methods, and DNA testing, phone records and witness statements were assessed together. In an operation in July 2026 five people were detained. Two suspects were arrested on 15 and 17 July, while three were released under judicial supervision. The reopening of the case after about 20 years was presented as an example of how old files can be solved with scientific methods. Because proceedings are ongoing, the suspects' identities have not been made public.
