Buharkent's 21-Year Unsolved Killing
On 7 July 2005 a person was shot dead in the Üç Eylül neighbourhood of Buharkent, Aydın. The investigation failed to find the perpetrator and the file stayed unsolved for years. Gendarmerie criminal investigation (JASAT) detectives reopened the case, re-examining old statements, witnesses and records. In February 2026, just days before the 20-year limitation period expired, a suspect was identified, caught and remanded in custody by a court. Proceedings are ongoing and there is no final conviction. The case is cited as an example of the value of reviewing files that are nearing their limitation deadlines.
