The 7 July 2005 London Bombings

ClosedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

On the morning of Thursday 7 July 2005, during the rush hour, four coordinated suicide bombings struck London's public transport. At 8:49 am, within 50 seconds, bombs exploded on three Underground trains near Aldgate, at Edgware Road and near Russell Square; about an hour later a fourth bomb detonated on a double-decker bus in Tavistock Square. Apart from the bombers, 52 people from 18 countries were killed and more than 700 injured. It was Britain's deadliest terrorist attack since the 1988 Lockerbie bombing and the country's first suicide attack. All four bombers died. The official inquests, concluded in 2011, found the victims had been unlawfully killed and made recommendations on the emergency response.
