LONDON — 2010 · Suspicious Death
The Death of Gareth Williams
Gareth Williams, a 31-year-old mathematician from GCHQ on secondment to MI6, was found dead on 23 August 2010 inside a padlocked sports bag in the bath of his flat in Pimlico. His body had been there for several days. At the 2012 inquest the coroner found his death was unnatural and that he had, on the balance of probabilities, been killed unlawfully. A Metropolitan Police re-investigation completed in 2013, however, concluded that his death was probably an accident. Who closed the padlock on the bag has never been established.
