KINGSTON — 2007 · Suspicious Death
The Death of Bob Woolmer
Bob Woolmer, the English coach of Pakistan's national cricket team, was found dead in his room at the Pegasus hotel in Kingston on 18 March 2007, the day after his side was knocked out of the Cricket World Cup by Ireland. Initial reports suggested a heart attack, but four days later Jamaican police launched a murder investigation based on a local pathologist's report, and the case made global headlines amid match-fixing speculation. Three independent overseas experts, however, disputed the post-mortem findings. After a 31-day inquest with 52 witnesses, the jury returned an open verdict in November 2007: neither a crime nor natural causes could be established.
