The Death of Sunanda Pushkar
Businesswoman Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in a suite at the Leela hotel in New Delhi on 17 January 2014. The couple were staying at the hotel while her husband's official residence was being renovated. The cause of death and autopsy findings were long disputed; Delhi Police first registered a murder case, then in 2018 charged her husband with abetment of suicide and cruelty. In August 2021 a special court in Delhi discharged him of all charges, finding no evidence to support them. Police later challenged the ruling before the Delhi High Court.
