The Death of Jiah Khan
Bollywood actress Jiah Khan was found dead at her home in Mumbai's Juhu district on the night of 3 June 2013, aged 25. Police treated the death as suicide; because of a letter she left, a person close to her was arrested on a charge of abetment to suicide. Her mother argued the death could have been murder and sought an independent inquiry, and a 2014 Bombay High Court order transferred the file to the CBI. The CBI concluded the death was a suicide. After a decade-long trial, a special CBI court acquitted the accused for lack of evidence in April 2023. The family said it would challenge the verdict.
