The Murder of Sarah Inam
Sarah Inam, a Pakistani-Canadian economist working in Abu Dhabi, was killed on 23 September 2022 at a house in the Chak Shahzad area of Islamabad. The husband she had married in July 2022 was detained at the scene. Her family said she had met him only a few times before the marriage and had been trapped for financial gain. The case reignited debate in Pakistan about violence against women. In December 2023 an Islamabad sessions court convicted the accused of murder and sentenced him to death; a relative who was present in the house was acquitted for lack of evidence. He appealed the verdict.
