The Murder of Noor Mukadam
Noor Mukadam, the 27-year-old daughter of a former diplomat, was found murdered at a residence in Islamabad's F-7/4 sector on 20 July 2021. The perpetrator was arrested at the scene; the investigation found that household staff had prevented her attempts to escape. In February 2022 an Islamabad court sentenced the killer to death and two household employees to ten years each. The Islamabad High Court upheld the verdict in 2023, and on 20 May 2025 the Supreme Court of Pakistan confirmed the death sentence for murder. The case became a rallying point for a broad public movement against violence against women in Pakistan.
