2021 Manavgat Forest Fire

ClosedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

On 28 July 2021 a forest fire broke out at four separate points at Kepezbeleni in Antalya's Akseki district and, driven by strong northerly winds, quickly reached Manavgat. It also spread to the Gündoğmuş, İbradı and Alanya districts and burned for about 10 days. Around 60,000 hectares burned and more than 2,000 buildings were damaged; seven people died in Manavgat. Many villages and neighbourhoods were evacuated. Together with the large fires in Muğla and other provinces that summer, it formed part of Turkey's worst wildfire season in recent history and sparked debate over firefighting aircraft capacity. Allegations of sabotage circulated, but no confirmed finding to that effect was announced.
