Killing of the Dedeoğulları Family

SolvedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

On 30 July 2021, in Konya's Meram district, seven adult members of the Dedeoğulları family were killed in a gun attack by a neighbour with whom the family had a long-running feud. The victims were Yaşar and İpek Dedeoğulları and the couple's five adult children. The attacker fled, and a large-scale manhunt was launched. The fugitive, Mehmet Altun, was caught in Konya's Bozkır district on 4 August 2021. On 17 November 2022 a Konya court sentenced Altun to seven aggravated life terms and acquitted the other defendants. The family and their lawyers said they objected to the outcome regarding the other defendants. The case sparked wide public debate over how the long-running feud and earlier complaints had been handled.
