Airblue Flight 202 Crash
On the morning of 28 July 2010, Airblue Flight 202, an Airbus A321 flying from Karachi to Islamabad, struck the Margalla Hills north of the capital while approaching the airport in heavy rain and poor visibility. All 146 passengers and six crew, 152 people in total, were killed. It remains the deadliest air crash on Pakistani soil. The Civil Aviation Authority's report found that the captain flew a non-standard approach below the minimum descent altitude, disregarded repeated 'pull up' warnings in the cockpit, and that crew coordination was poor. The crash is regarded as a textbook case of controlled flight into terrain (CFIT).
