The Murder of Journalist Tülay Dağaşan
On the evening of 4 January 2024, in the Abdi İpekçi neighbourhood of Darıca, Kocaeli, Tülay Dağaşan, a former journalist who worked in the advertising department of a local television channel, was shot on her way home from work by the ex-husband she had divorced two years earlier. She was taken to hospital but could not be saved. Reports said she had repeatedly received threats from him after the divorce. The defendant fled the scene and was later caught. Evidence presented at trial showed that before the killing he had searched online about sentences and prison conditions, obtained an unlicensed gun and waited for her. He was tried in custody; the sources do not report a final verdict.
