The Cihan Aymaz case

On 2 May 2023, at Kadıköy Rıhtım in Istanbul, street musician Cihan Aymaz was stabbed to death in an argument that broke out after he refused to play a song requested of him while performing on the street. The Istanbul Anatolian 22nd Heavy Penal Court sentenced the defendant to life imprisonment for 'intentional homicide.' The ruling passed through the appellate and cassation stages and was upheld by the Court of Cassation, becoming final in 2026.
