The Murder of Simge Kodalak
On 30 December 2024, 31-year-old Simge Kodalak was killed with a bladed weapon by her husband of 12 years near the Reisler Pond in the Kaynarca district of Sakarya. Her husband, a musician, went to the police in Kocaali after the killing, said he had killed his wife and surrendered. Her body was then found near the pond; the investigation established that she had been wounded in the neck with a bladed weapon. During the investigation, a Forensic Medicine Institute report on the defendant's mental state was awaited. She was buried after a funeral prayer at the Merkez Mosque in the Çaykışla neighbourhood of Erenler. At trial before the Sakarya 2nd High Criminal Court, the defendant said he was remorseful; on 23 January 2026 the court sentenced him to aggravated life imprisonment for intentionally killing his spouse.
