The Erba Massacre

SolvedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

On the evening of 11 December 2006, four people were killed in an apartment building in Erba, in the province of Como: a young mother, her two-year-old son, her mother and a neighbour. The scene had been damaged by fire; a neighbour who survived his injuries became a witness. A couple living in the same building, who had a long-running dispute with the victims, were arrested and initially confessed before retracting. Both were sentenced to life imprisonment and the verdict became final in 2011. A defence request for a retrial was rejected by the Brescia Court of Appeal on 10 July 2024, and the Court of Cassation dismissed the subsequent appeals.
