MILAN — 1995 · Murder
The Murder of Maurizio Gucci
Maurizio Gucci, a member of the fashion house's founding family and former chairman of the company, was shot dead by a hired gunman on the steps of his office at Via Palestro 20 in Milan on the morning of 27 March 1995. For nearly two years the investigation made no progress. In January 1997 police arrested the suspects after establishing that his ex-wife had arranged the killing through an intermediary, a getaway driver and the gunman. In 1998 a Milan court sentenced the ex-wife to 29 years, reduced to 26 on appeal; the gunman received life and the others long prison terms. The organiser was released in 2016. The case inspired the 2021 film "House of Gucci".
