The Meredith Kercher Case

SolvedSources: BLast updated: 14 October 2026

Meredith Kercher, a 21-year-old British exchange student from the University of Leeds, was found dead in her room in Perugia on 2 November 2007. The investigation first focused on her flatmate and the flatmate's boyfriend, who were convicted in 2009. Bloody fingerprints at the scene, however, belonged to another man, who was convicted of the murder in a fast-track trial in 2008. After a long appeals process, Italy's Supreme Court definitively acquitted the flatmate and her boyfriend in March 2015, citing 'stunning flaws' in the investigation. The case became a byword for forensic controversy amid intense international media coverage.
