The Retiree Who Never Returned from a Hike in Eğirdir
In early July 2023 H.Ş., a 63-year-old retiree, set out on a nature walk in Eğirdir, Isparta, and did not return. After his relatives raised the alarm, gendarmerie, AFAD, UMKE and volunteer teams searched mountainous, wooded terrain with drones for several days in hot weather. On the fourth day of the search, 5 July 2023, his body was found near the town forest at Oluklacı in the Sekibağ neighbourhood and taken for autopsy. The case drew attention to the safety of older walkers hiking alone on trails around Eğirdir.
