ANKARA — 2024 · Murder
The Gülhan Taş case
In Ankara, Gülhan Taş was killed in an attack by a man who had persistently stalked and threatened her. Before her death, Taş had explained in a media interview that the defendant kept trying to reach her despite repeated restraining orders issued against him. That recorded account later fueled debate over gaps in the enforcement of protective measures. In its indictment, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office sought aggravated life imprisonment against the defendant for 'premeditated murder of a woman with monstrous intent or by inflicting torment'; the trial is ongoing before the Ankara 33rd Heavy Penal Court.
