Ankara High-Speed Train Crash

Under InvestigationSources: BLast updated: 14 October 2026

On the morning of 13 December 2018, an Ankara-Konya high-speed train collided with a guide locomotive on the same track at Marşandiz station; carriages derailed and a pedestrian overpass collapsed onto them. Nine people, including three train drivers, were killed and 107 injured. The absence of a signalling system on the line became a focus of debate. The trial of 10 defendants, including traffic controllers and state railway managers, was prolonged by additional expert reports; as of September 2026 the file had been sent to the prosecutor for a final opinion.
