SALISBURY — 2018 · Murder
The Salisbury Novichok Poisoning
Sergei Skripal, a former Russian military intelligence officer who had worked for British intelligence, and his daughter Yulia were found unconscious on a bench in the English city of Salisbury on 4 March 2018. Both had been poisoned with a military-grade Novichok nerve agent; after weeks in a critical condition they survived. A police officer who went to the scene was also seriously affected. In June 2018, in nearby Amesbury, two people who found a perfume bottle were exposed to the same agent, and Dawn Sturgess died on 8 July. Britain blamed Russian military intelligence and charged three Russian nationals, but as the suspects are in Russia none has been tried. Russia denied the accusations. The case led Western countries to expel more than 150 Russian diplomats.
