The Tutoring App Murder — Busan
In May 2023 in Busan, a 23-year-old woman used a tutoring app to contact a 26-year-old private tutor while posing as a student's parent. Arriving at the tutor's home disguised as the student, she killed her and tried to dispose of the body. She was caught quickly after a taxi driver reported a suspicious suitcase she was carrying. Investigators said she had an interest in crime content and committed the crime "out of curiosity". The Busan District Court sentenced Jung Yoo-jung to life in November 2023, and the Supreme Court upheld the sentence in June 2024. The case fuelled debate in South Korea about "motiveless" crimes.
