SolvedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

On 30 June 2019, at Yongso Valley in Gapyeong County, Gyeonggi, a 39-year-old man who could not swim drowned after jumping into deep water. The death was first recorded as an accident. But investigators found that his wife had acted with her lover to collect his life insurance, and that attempts had been made on his life in February and May that year. The two fled during the investigation in 2021 and were caught in April 2022. In October 2022 the Incheon District Court sentenced her to life and him to 30 years. The Supreme Court upheld the sentences in September 2023, but rejected the prosecution's "psychological control" theory and classed the crime as murder by omission.
