GRÜNWALD — 2005 · Murder
Murder of Rudolph Moshammer
Munich's famous fashion designer Rudolph Moshammer was found dead by his chauffeur on the morning of 14 January 2005 at his home in Grünwald, south of Munich. Known for his extravagant style and his charity work for the homeless, Moshammer had been strangled. Police quickly arrested a suspect thanks to DNA traces at the scene. In November 2005 the Munich I Regional Court sentenced the defendant to life imprisonment for murder and robbery resulting in death, finding particular severity of guilt; the Federal Court of Justice rejected the appeal. The case became a noted example of a fast DNA-led investigation into a celebrity's death.
