The Rupperswil Quadruple Murder

SolvedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

On 21 December 2015 firefighters responding to a house fire in Rupperswil, canton Aargau, found four people dead inside: a mother, her two sons and one son's girlfriend. It emerged that the crime was a robbery and murder. One of the largest investigations in Swiss history followed, with a record reward of 100,000 francs. On 12 May 2016 a man living in the village, whom no one had suspected, was arrested through DNA and fingerprint matches. The Lenzburg district court sentenced him in March 2018 to life imprisonment with indefinite secure detention (Verwahrung); higher courts upheld the verdict.
