GRAY — 2017 · Murder
Murder of Alexia Daval
Alexia Daval, a 29-year-old bank employee, disappeared from Gray-la-Ville on 28 October 2017; her partially burned body was found two days later in the nearby Esmoulins woods. Her husband had reported her missing and drew public attention by speaking tearfully at a memorial march. During a three-month investigation, GPS data and witness statements placed his work vehicle at the scene; arrested in January 2018, he confessed to strangling her, then retracted and blamed another family member. At a 2019 reconstruction he admitted the killing again. In November 2020 he was sentenced to 25 years for murdering his wife and did not appeal. The case became a symbol in France's debate on violence against women.
