A Death Hidden for 21 Years in Menemen
In 1995 A.T., 23, returned to her family in İzmir after a divorce and then vanished. No missing-person report was ever filed. In 2016 a tip to the Prime Ministry Communication Centre (BİMER) claimed that the young woman had been killed in 1995 and that this had been concealed. In September 2016 İzmir homicide detectives searched a house in Menemen and found remains. Investigators alleged that a relative had killed her and that the family had hidden it. In March 2017, however, the court ruled that the limitation period had expired given the date of the crime and dropped the case; no one was convicted.
