The Moscow, Idaho Student Murders
In the early hours of 13 November 2022, four university students were stabbed to death in a rental house near the University of Idaho campus in Moscow, Idaho; two roommates in the house were unharmed. The killings shook the small college town and remained without a named suspect for weeks. DNA on a knife sheath left at the scene, genetic genealogy and phone records led to Bryan Kohberger, a criminology PhD student at Washington State University, who was arrested in Pennsylvania on 30 December 2022. On 2 July 2025 he pleaded guilty to all charges to avoid the death penalty, and on 23 July 2025 he received four consecutive life sentences.
