YORK — 2009 · Missing Person
Disappearance of Claudia Lawrence
Claudia Lawrence, a 35-year-old chef at the University of York's Goodricke College, vanished without trace when she was due to start a 6 am shift on 18 March 2009. She had last been seen and heard from the day before. North Yorkshire Police treated the case as a murder inquiry almost from the start, and it became the largest and most complex missing person investigation in the force's history. Although there were arrests and searches over the years, no one has been charged and no trace of her has been found. Searches of gravel pits in 2021 also proved fruitless. Police stress that the case remains open.
