The Disappearance of Iwona Wieczorek
On the night of 17 July 2010, 19-year-old Iwona Wieczorek left a club in Sopot and began walking home along the coast to Gdańsk. Security cameras recorded her several times along the route; the last image was taken at 4:12 a.m. near a beach entrance in Gdańsk-Jelitkowo. No trace of her was ever found. In one of Poland's most closely followed missing-person cases, two people were detained in December 2022 on suspicion of obstructing the investigation and destroying evidence, but there has been no conviction relating to her disappearance. The case is handled by a cold-case unit and a large reward is offered for information.
