Reşadiye Ambush

ClosedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

On 7 December 2009 a military unit attached to a gendarmerie outpost in the Reşadiye district of Tokat was ambushed. Seven soldiers were killed. The attack came amid political debate over a government initiative on the Kurdish issue. Initial reports did not say who was responsible; according to the BBC, attacks on military units in the north were rare, and both the PKK and leftist groups were suspected. Later reports said the soldiers served at the Sazak outpost and were killed by the PKK; the same outpost came under fire again a year later. Sources differ on the number of injured. The Sazak outpost was closed in 2013 as part of a reorganisation and handed over to the Treasury.
