The Murder of Helena Jubany

Under InvestigationSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

Helena Jubany, a 27-year-old librarian and journalism student, disappeared in Sabadell near Barcelona on 30 November 2001; her body was found on 2 December in the inner courtyard of a building on Calvet d'Estrella street. Although suicide was initially mentioned, forensic findings showed she had been drugged and then killed by a fall from height. It emerged that before her death she had received anonymous notes from unknown senders. Members of a mountaineering club she belonged to were investigated, but the case was closed before reaching trial. Reopened thanks to her family's efforts, the file saw new DNA and handwriting analyses in the 2020s, and the Sabadell court is continuing the investigation.
