ATHENS — 2021 · Murder
The Caroline Crouch Case
Caroline Crouch, 19, of British descent, was found dead at her home in Glyka Nera near Athens on the morning of 11 May 2021. Her husband said three armed, masked burglars had broken in, tied him up and killed his wife, and the case caused great fear and public interest in Greece. But after digital evidence from phones, a smartwatch and the home security system contradicted his account, he was arrested on 17 June 2021 and confessed. An Athens court sentenced him to life imprisonment for murder and misleading the authorities in May 2022. The appeals court unanimously upheld the conviction in September 2023.
