The 2015 Copenhagen Attacks

ClosedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

On 14 February 2015, a gunman attacked a public debate on freedom of expression at the Krudttønden cultural centre in Copenhagen; film director Finn Nørgaard was killed and three police officers were wounded. That night Dan Uzan, on security duty outside the Great Synagogue in Krystalgade, was killed and two more officers were wounded. The attacker died in a shootout with police in Nørrebro on the morning of 15 February. Denmark's prime minister called the attacks an act of terrorism. The events triggered a broad debate in Denmark about free speech, the security of the Jewish community and radicalisation; several people accused of helping the attacker were later tried.
