COPENHAGEN — 1990 · Murder
The "Amager Man" Case
In Copenhagen, an elderly woman was killed in Valby in 1987, and a 40-year-old teacher was killed in the Fasanskoven woods on Amager in 1990. The two cases, along with a series of sexual assaults in the area over the years, long went unsolved; the press called the perpetrator the "Amager Man". Arrested in November 2010 on DNA evidence, he had been living as an ordinary family man and amateur football coach. On 22 December 2011 a jury at Copenhagen City Court sentenced him to life imprisonment for two murders and six rapes; he did not appeal. The case showed the importance of DNA-based investigation in solving old cases in Denmark.
