STOCKHOLM — 1991 · Serial Murder
The "Laser Man" Attacks
Between August 1991 and January 1992, eleven people were shot in the Stockholm and Uppsala area, most of them of immigrant background. One victim died and the others were seriously injured. Because a rifle with a laser sight was used in the first attacks, the perpetrator became known in the press as "Lasermannen" (the Laser Man). Arrested in June 1992, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in January 1994 for racially motivated murder and attempted murder. In February 2018 a German court also gave him a life sentence for a 1992 murder in Frankfurt. The case remains a symbol in Swedish debates on combating racist violence.
