STOCKHOLM — 2003 · Murder
The Assassination of Anna Lindh
Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh was stabbed on 10 September 2003 while shopping without bodyguards at the NK department store in Stockholm, and died in hospital the following morning. The attack came days before Sweden's referendum on the euro. The attacker fled but was caught two weeks later thanks to store CCTV. The Stockholm-born man of Serbian parentage confessed and was sentenced to life in 2004. The killing, following the 1986 assassination of Olof Palme, reignited debate over politicians' security in Sweden.
