Afyonkarahisar Ammunition Depot Explosion

On the night of 5 September 2012, an explosion occurred during an ammunition transfer at a military unit in Afyonkarahisar. Twenty-five soldiers — two NCOs, two specialist sergeants and 21 privates — were killed, and soldiers and civilians were injured. The case, which began in a military court, was retried at the Afyonkarahisar 1st High Criminal Court after military courts were abolished. In January 2018 two senior officers were sentenced to 13 years and 4 months each and a lieutenant to 6 years and 8 months.
