The Murder of Tshegofatso Pule
Tshegofatso Pule, 28, from Soweto, went missing in June 2020 while eight months pregnant and was found dead days later in the Durban Deep area of Roodepoort. The hired killer pleaded guilty, received 20 years in February 2021, and testified that her boyfriend had ordered the killing. The Johannesburg High Court convicted the boyfriend, a former stock market analyst, in March 2022 and sentenced him to life on 29 July 2022, the judge calling it one of the worst offences he had seen. His appeal was refused. The case became a symbol of the national debate on femicide.
