Air India Flight 171 Crash
On 12 June 2025, Air India Flight 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, lost height about 30 seconds after take-off and crashed onto a medical college hostel building in Meghani Nagar near the airport. Of the 242 people on board, 241 were killed, along with 19 people on the ground; a single passenger survived. The preliminary report by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), published in July 2025, showed that both engines' fuel control switches had moved to 'cutoff' seconds after lift-off.
