SPRINGFIELD — 1992 · Missing Person
The Disappearance of the "Springfield Three"
On the morning of 7 June 1992 two friends aged 19 and 18, who had just graduated from high school, and the 47-year-old mother of one of them vanished without trace from the mother's home in Springfield, Missouri. The young women had spent the night at graduation parties and returned before dawn. Their cars, purses and belongings were left behind; apart from a broken porch light there was no sign of a struggle. A message on the answering machine that might have been a clue was accidentally erased. Despite more than 5,000 tips, proposals to dig beneath a car park, and claims by a man convicted of other crimes, their fate has never been established. A memorial bench for the three stands in Phelps Grove Park.
