NANYUKI — 2012 · Murder
Murder of Agnes Wanjiru
Agnes Wanjiru, 21, entered a hotel in Nanyuki with British Army soldiers after a night out in March 2012 and was never seen again. Her body was found in the hotel's septic tank about two months later. The stalled investigation was revived when a Kenyan inquest in 2019 ruled that she had been murdered and that the killer may have been among the British soldiers. In September 2025 a Kenyan judge issued an arrest warrant for a former British soldier, who was detained in the United Kingdom in October 2025 as extradition proceedings began. The case has also intensified debate over the British military presence in Kenya.
