Murder of Jayde Panayiotou
Jayde Panayiotou, a 29-year-old teacher, was abducted outside her home in Kabega Park, Port Elizabeth (now Gqeberha), on the morning of 21 April 2015; her body was found near KwaNobuhle the next day. Her husband initially made public appeals for help, but the investigation revealed that he had paid one of his employees to find hitmen. Ruling that the murder was calculated and cruel, the Port Elizabeth High Court sentenced the husband and the gunman to life imprisonment in November 2017, while another accused received 15 years for conspiracy to murder. One middleman remained a fugitive for a long time.
