The Murder of Stephany Flores

SolvedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

Stephany Flores Ramírez, a 21-year-old business student, was found dead in a hotel room in Lima's Miraflores district on 30 May 2010. Hotel records and security cameras pointed to the Dutchman staying in the room, Joran van der Sloot, who was already known worldwide as the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba. He fled Peru after the killing; on 3 June 2010 he was caught in Chile and handed over to Peru. On 7 June he confessed, and on 13 January 2012 he was sentenced to 28 years in prison. In 2023 he was temporarily extradited to the US and also admitted responsibility in the Holloway case.
