The Viviana Haeger Case — 42 Days Missing

SolvedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

Accountant Viviana Haeger, 42, vanished without a trace from her home in Puerto Varas on the morning of 29 June 2010. During an investigation that initially focused on a possible kidnapping, police searched the house several times without result. On 10 August 2010, 42 days later, her body was found in the attic of the house. The first autopsy ruled out third-party involvement, but new autopsies in 2012 and 2015 suggested otherwise. In December 2015 a carpenter confessed to the killing. In September 2017 a court in Puerto Montt sentenced the carpenter to 10 years for robbery with homicide, while the other defendant, a family member, was unanimously acquitted. The case inspired the Netflix series "42 Days of Darkness".
