The Murder of Keishla Rodríguez
Keishla Rodríguez, 27, disappeared on 29 April 2021 after saying she was going to meet the Olympic boxer who was the father of the baby she was expecting. Soon afterwards her body was found in San José Lagoon in San Juan. The FBI investigation established that she had been abducted and thrown from the Teodoro Moscoso Bridge into the lagoon. The former boxer and an accomplice were arrested on federal charges. In 2023 a federal jury found the boxer guilty and he was sentenced to life in prison. The murder came amid a state of emergency over gender violence in Puerto Rico and caused widespread outrage.
