LISBON — 1992 · Serial Murder

The Lisbon Ripper

UnsolvedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

Between the summer of 1992 and the spring of 1993, three young women aged between 22 and 27 were found killed in a similar manner in and around Lisbon: in Póvoa de Santo Adrião in July 1992, near the railway at Entrecampos in January 1993, and close to the first site in March 1993. The press called the killer the "Lisbon Ripper". Portugal's Judicial Police, assisted by the FBI, found no traces at the scenes other than the victims' own, and the killer was never identified. The crimes became time-barred in 2008. A man detained in 2011 was later released after forensic checks; the case remains officially unsolved.
